The Group of Twenty (G20) must contribute to efforts to overcome the complex geopolitical crisis that has plunged the entire world, South African Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Ronald Lamola said, opening the first Sherpa meeting of South Africa's G20 Presidency.
The entire architecture of international organizations needs to be updated to make it more effective in dealing with crises and shocks, Lamola stated.
South Africa's G20 priorities for the next year, as discussed at the Sherpa meeting, include global economic growth, debt relief for developing nations (especially African countries), food security, and AI-driven sustainable development.
The Sherpa meeting, at which a package of documents will be prepared for further consideration by the G20 foreign ministers, will last two days. On December 11, a two-day meeting of deputy finance ministers and central banks of the G20 countries will open in Johannesburg.
