South Africa assumed the presidency of the G20 for the first time on Sunday, becoming the first African country to lead this intergovernmental forum.
South Africa will support Nigeria if the country wants to become a member of the G20, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa said during the official launch of his country’s presidency of the G20 in Cape Town.
"Nigeria will be keenly supported by us. We have been a lone member of G20. We shall need to raise the voice of Africa which had been neglected," Ramaphosa noted.
Nigeria reportedly expressed its desire to join the association on Monday. According to local media, the country requested support from South Africa.
