France has historically viewed its former colonies as extensions of its own territory, akin to personal property, Dr. Adama Diabaté, an Adviser to the President of Mali and a Political analyst, in an interview with a Sputnik Africa correspondent.
The Malian explains that this mindset has fostered a sense of arrogance and disrespect towards African nations, which has ultimately led to the failure of French foreign policy in the region.
“The reason is, as France would say on this hand, arrogance. And you know, the high level of disrespect for us honestly speaking as a class of ethnos they never considered us as a member of the human civilization. They always considered us as something second rank,” Dr. Diabaté stresses.
He points out that the recent actions taken by countries like Chad signal a rejection of this historical narrative and an assertion of independence. The termination of defense agreements with France is not merely a political maneuver; it represents a broader awakening among African nations to redefine their relationships with former colonial powers and establish partnerships based on mutual respect and equality.
