Authorities of the province of Benguela in western Angola have banned street trading, as well as funerals, in several municipalities during the visit of US President Joe Biden to the country, a local newspaper said.
According to the report, funerals that were planned on Tuesday were postponed to Wednesday in the municipalities of Catumbela and Luongo.
The newspaper noted that, on Wednesday, Biden will visit the railway in the province of Benguela, connecting the territory of Angola with the mining regions of the Democratic Republic of Congo and Zambia.
Earlier, Aguinaldo Ramos, an international analyst based in Angola, told Sputnik that Biden's emphasis on the railway, connecting Zambia and the DRC to the Atlantic, suggests a desire to counter China's investments and secure access to key trade routes. This move underscores the US's renewed efforts to regain influence in a region increasingly dominated by other global powers, Ramos concluded.
