South Africa intends to put the need to adopt a new formula for electing the chair of G20 on the agenda of the group after the country assumes the presidency on December 1, the country's diplomat in charge of G20 coordination, Masotsha Mnguni, said at a joint briefing by South Africa's Foreign and Finance Ministries, as Russian media reported.
The G20 bloc needs to have a balance between developed countries and developing countries representing the Global South, he emphasized.
The African country aims to amplify the voices of Africa and the Global South during its presidency, hosting the 2025 G20 summit in Johannesburg. This push for reform highlights a desire for increased representation and influence from developing countries within the G20, the diplomat noted.
