The incumbent president of Uruguay, Luis Lacalle Pou, congratulated opposition candidate Yamandu Orsi of the Frente Amplio coalition on his victory in the presidential elections.
With 81.26% of the votes counted, Orsi is winning the election with 49.02% of the votes, while his opponent, the candidate from the center-right party, Alvaro Delgado, receives 46.74%.
"I called Yamandu Orsi to congratulate him on becoming the president-elect of our country and to begin the process of transferring power when he deems it appropriate," the president said on X.
In this way, Lacalle Pou acknowledged the defeat of the candidate from the ruling party, Alvaro Delgado.
The future president will take office on March 1, 2025.
