The SADC mission in the DRC will be extended by one year, the press service of the organization said in a statement following the summit of the SADC in Zimbabwe.
"Summit received updates on the peace and security situation in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), expressed concern at the continued deterioration of the security and humanitarian situation in the country," the statement said.
The participants of the summit also expressed their satisfaction with the political situation in Botswana and Mauritius after the peaceful transfer of power following the elections in these two countries in October and November.
On December 15, 2023, the SADC deployed its forces in the DRC with a one-year mandate to address the security situation in the country and restore peace, security, and stability.
