The Marburg virus epidemic has ended in Rwanda, where no new cases or deaths have been reported for nearly two weeks, Sabin Nsanzimana said during a press briefing of the Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
"Marburg virus in Rwanda is over. I am very happy to report here today that it has been almost two weeks without a case and a month without a death related to Marburg disease," he said.
According to the minister, all patients treated for the virus were discharged from hospitals, and the total number of victims of the epidemic amounted to 15 people.
The Marburg fever epidemic was declared in Rwanda on September 28, while the vaccination campaign with an experimental vaccine began in October.
