Russia will continue to provide assistance to African countries in various fields, including in the fight against terrorism, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in an address to participants of the First Ministerial Conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum read out by the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov at the plenary session on Sunday.

Russia, Africa to Continue Trade Development Despite Obstacles Created by West, Russian Foreign Minister Says

Russia and African countries will continue to develop trade despite obstacles created by the West, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov stated at the plenary session.

"Despite artificial obstacles from the collective West, we continue to improve business support mechanisms, find effective logistics solutions and use new instruments for mutual settlements that do not depend on negative external interference," Lavrov said.

Trade between Russia and African countries had reached a historical maximum of $24.5 billion in 2023, the top diplomat added.

"Trade and economic cooperation are developing. Last year, we reached the historical maximum of $24.5 billion in trade, but it is clear that this figure does not reflect our potential, which needs to be maximized," he noted.

The participants of the Russia-Africa Ministerial Conference are set to adopt a declaration with new development tasks, which will be presented to the Russian president, Lavrov said.
"I believe that as a result of our discussion, in the declaration that we are going to approve, new tasks and new ideas will be set that deserve to be presented to our president in the context of preparations for the next third Russia-Africa summit," the minister said.

Africa Opposes Hegemony on World Stage, Mauritanian President Says

African countries oppose the hegemony of any state on the world stage and call for cooperation based on multipolarity, Mauritanian President and African Union's chairman, Mohamed Ould Ghazouani, said in his address to participants of the ministerial conference of the Russia-Africa Partnership Forum read out by the Mauritanian Foreign Minister Mohamed Salem Ould Merzoug at the plenary session.

"This event [the conference] comes at a time when the world is facing serious challenges that require a united effort and urgent solutions, while at the same time confronting those [states] that are trying to set their own rules. <...> We, as the international community, must take the lead in finding solutions to ensure that the situation does not deteriorate. And we can do this through joint efforts and increased cooperation based on multipolarity, on cooperation between countries, on political solutions to make the world a fairer, more balanced, more integrated world, including for the least developed countries," the Mauritanian leader said.

The 2023-2026 agenda further outlines the strengthening of African economies and deepening cooperation; the first part of this agenda involves solving the problems the African continent is facing, he emphasized.
Ghazouani also thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin for his constant efforts to develop and strengthen relations with Africa.
