Russia is interested in attracting labor from Zimbabwe, particularly in the construction sector, which is experiencing growth despite Western sanctions, state media outlet The Herald reported, following a meeting between the Minister of National Housing and Social Amenities of the Republic, Soda Zhemu, and the Deputy Minister of Construction and Housing of the Russian Federation, Nikita Stasishin, on the sidelines of the 12th session of the International Urban Forum in Cairo.
Stasishin, as noted by the publication, proposed that Zimbabwe provide Russia with construction workers to assist in implementing various projects. The Russian side also expressed its willingness to share its experience with the republic in executing social housing programs.
Zhemu invited the Russian delegation to visit Zimbabwe. He stated that the African country is primarily interested in the construction of social housing, financing construction, and is ready to discuss opportunities for establishing cooperation in areas such as workforce and housing construction.
According to the newspaper, the parties reached agreements on several issues, including a visit by the Russian delegation to Zimbabwe to explore cooperation prospects in the construction sector. Various areas of interaction (infrastructure development, new construction technologies, providing affordable housing) were discussed within the framework of implementing the memorandum of understanding signed in July 2023.
