Nigerian President Orders Release of All Protesters Detained, Media Reports

In early October, thousands of Nigerians took to the streets of many cities for several days under the slogan "End bad governance." The cause of the protests in Nigeria reportedly was a sharp deterioration in the socio-economic situation. According to experts, 25 million Nigerians are at risk of hunger due to unemployment and rising prices.

Nigerian President Bola Tinubu ordered the release of all those detained for participating in mass anti-government protests, according to the local media.
These are 114 people in addition to the approximately 70 minors who were released earlier.
Nigerian Vice President Kashim Shettima explained the head of state's move as "humanitarian in nature, despite the overwhelming evidence of their involvement" in the unrest.
