Since the beginning of Israel's war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip in October 2023, more than 41,000 Palestinian civilians, mostly children and women, have been killed in the ongoing Israeli attacks, according to the Gaza health ministry. Hundreds more have been reported killed in the occupied West Bank.

Cairo is making every possible effort to achieve a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi told Palestinian National Authority Chairman Mahmoud Abbas.
"Egypt is continuing its tireless and persistent efforts to achieve calm, enforce a ceasefire, and ensure the delivery of humanitarian aid," el-Sisi said, as quote by his office.
In addition, the Egyptian president said, Cairo continues to work to protect the legitimate right of the Palestinian people to establish "an independent state along the June 4, 1967, borders, in accordance with the resolutions of international legitimacy".

El-Sisi also called for the political will to end the violence in the Middle East and focus on development, reconstruction and rebuilding the region.
It is impossible to take serious steps to face challenges where there is war, where people are displaced from their homes, where there is hunger and disease, el-Sisi added.
Egypt is a key mediator in the negotiations between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas movement.
