Uganda's Ministry of Agriculture, Animal Industry, and Fisheries (Maaif) and the state-owned China Communications Construction Company (CCCC) signed a memorandum of understanding promoting agricultural mechanization, small-scale irrigation systems, and post-harvest handling infrastructure, local media reported.
"We welcome every partner with innovative solutions to address these challenges, and this Memorandum of Understanding is a testament to our commitment to finding sustainable, long-term solutions," said Ronald Segawa Gyagenda, the acting Permanent Secretary of Maaif, as quoted by the local media.
The secretary pointed out that the program allows Uganda to take advantage of modern agricultural technologies meant to boost output, stabilize food prices, and protect food security.
Li Ying Jun, the CCCC representative, emphasized that one of the main problems facing the industry is Uganda's inadequate food storage facilities, which the partnership seeks to solve by building state-of-the-art storage infrastructure.
Earlier, Uganda signed a contract with Turkish construction company Yapi Merkezi to build a 272-kilometer section of a new railway line, marking a significant step towards boosting regional trade and improving infrastructure.
