The Nigerian army conducted operations against Boko Haram, the Islamic State's West Africa Province (ISWAP)*, and criminal gangs across various regions of the country in the past week, resulting in the deaths of 101 terrorists, according to Edward Buba, Nigerian Director of Defense Media Operations.
The military operations also resulted in the death of a Boko Haram commander, the liberation of 157 hostages, and the arrest of 182 terrorists. The army seized 71 weapons, two vehicles, and a large amount of ammunition.
Nigeria faces ongoing security challenges, particularly in the north, with attacks by armed groups like Boko Haram and ISWAP. Despite the death penalty for kidnapping, ransom abductions are common, targeting villages, schools, and travelers.
