Israel's military operation in Lebanon is aimed at establishing control over a stretch of border land that it then hopes to expand into Syria, Turkish newspaper Hurriyet reported, citing sources.

In Lebanon, Israel reportedly has eyed the territory up to the Litani River. It is currently doing everything to expand the fighting into Syria and seize control of a similar buffer zone in the southeast, the Turkish newspaper's sources believe.
