Israel Violates Sovereignty of Lebanon, South African MFA Says

On October 1, Israel started a military operation in southern Lebanon in order to combat the local Shia movement, Hezbollah. Militants of the group were firing in northern regions of Israel in solidarity with the Palestinians suffering from Israeli strikes on the Gaza Strip.

Israel's airstrike on Lebanon is a violation of the sovereignty of the Arab state, the South African Ministry of Foreign Affairs says.
The country condemns the bombardment of Lebanon as a serious violation of international humanitarian law, as said in the statement released by the MFA of the African country. Pretoria called on the international community not to be indifferent in terms of the attacks.

In the statement, the South African MFA underscored the need to end the military operation being led by Israel in Lebanon, as there is a high risk of the region descending into a major military conflagration.
On October 10, Israeli forces hit central Beirut. According to the Lebanese Ministry of Health, more than 20 people were killed and more than 107 injured. Israeli forces struck a densely populated residential neighborhood of apartment buildings and small shops in the heart of the Lebanese capital.
