The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said Lebanese Shia movement Hezbollah fired 360 projectiles toward Israel, with about 220 reaching Israeli territory.
"As of 23:00 today (Wednesday, October 9), approximately 220 projectiles that were fired by the Hezbollah terrorist organization crossed from Lebanon into Israel. Overall, Hezbollah fired 360 projectiles toward Israeli territory," the IDF said on Telegram.
It said it will continue to defend Israel and its people.
Israel says the main objective of the ground operation is to create conditions for the return of 60,000 residents who fled the north of the country due to shelling.
Furthermore, Israeli Defense Minister Yoav Gallant said that Israel's response to Iran's missile attack will be "deadly, precise and surprising."
"Our strike on Iran will be deadly, precise and surprising. Those who try to harm the state of Israel will pay for it," Gallant said on X on Wednesday after meeting with Israeli soldiers.
The Israeli defense minister noted that Tehran will not understand what happened, but will simply see the results of the retaliatory strike, the Keshet 12 broadcaster reported.
Last week, Iran launched a massive missile attack on Israel, calling it an act of self-defense. The Israeli military said about 180 ballistic missiles were fired, most of which were intercepted.
