White House Says Still Concerned About Potential for Another January 6 Riot After Election

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) - On January 6, 2021, the US Capitol Building in Washington, DC, was attacked by a mob of supporters of then-President Donald Trump in an attempted self-coup two months after his defeat in the 2020 presidential election.

The White House still remains concerned about the possibility that there might not be a peaceful transfer of power following the US presidential election, Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said on Monday.

"I think the President and myself and many others have spoken to what we saw on January 6 of 2021, and so obviously there's always concerns," Jean-Pierre said.

Jean-Pierre added that Biden believes the US presidential election in November will be free and fair.
A Sputnik correspondent reported on Monday that the White House has been fenced off as a security measure ahead of the upcoming US elections in November.
The enhanced security measures will remain in place until the inauguration of the new US president, which will take place on January 20.
