Ondo town in Nigeria experienced severe flooding after three days of heavy rain intensified on Friday evening. The downpour, starting around 5 pm, caused canals and streams to overflow, submerging homes and structures. Several residents were rescued from drowning.
Pastor Ayo Babalola, the Special Adviser to the Ondo State Governor on Works and Infrastructure, assured the public that the state government was actively addressing the situation.
"We have to appeal to our people. If you look at the volume of water coming from the other side of the culvert to Jordan Street, here is so heavy. That’s why we have this kind of incident," noted Pastor Babalola.
The team plans to address the culvert's inadequacy with wider drainage channels and crack down on illegal construction along the river course.
