South African President Cyril Ramaphosa highlighted the UN's role in ending apartheid in South Africa and condemned Israel's actions against Palestinians, drawing parallels with South Africa's experience.
“The only lasting solution is the establishment of a Palestinian State that will exist side by side with Israel with East Jerusalem as its capital,” Ramaphosa stressed, addressing the UN General Assembly.
Ramaphosa called for international action through the UN system and other multinational institutions to end the suffering of civilians and for support for South Africa's legal case against Israel at the ICJ.
The South African president emphasized Africa's readiness to contribute to a more secure global order by participating in the UN Security Council "on the basis of respect and acceptance." He also advocated for greater cooperation between the UN and the African Union to address the root causes of conflict on the continent.
