Only one Latin American country has joined the Western sanctions against Russia, which indicates the independence of these states and demonstrates a profound level of relations with Moscow, Russian Ambassador to Cuba Viktor Koronelli told Sputnik.

"In Latin America and the Caribbean, only one country takes part in anti-Russia measures, including the imposition of sanctions. That country is the Bahamas. None of the other countries in Latin America or the Caribbean have joined the anti-Russia sanctions. This clearly demonstrates the independent position of Latin American countries and the level of our relations with these states," the ambassador said.

The diplomat added that Latin American countries are important partners of Russia in the Western Hemisphere and that active diplomacy is being promoted in most of these countries.
