Argentina has not received an invitation to the BRICS summit in Kazan, however, will study it if it comes, the republic's ambassador to Moscow, Enrique Ignacio Ferrer Vieira, told Sputnik.
"Let's start with the fact that we have not received an invitation to it. If we receive such an invitation, we will study it, and a decision will be made," he said in an interview with the agency.
At the same time, the ambassador noted that Argentina does not see any added value for itself in joining BRICS.
"We have very good relations with China, Brazil, India, South Africa, including trade and economic ties. We have our own channels of communication with these countries, so we do not see any prospects for our accession there. Now our priority is joining the OECD [Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development]," the diplomat said.
The decision to expand BRICS was made at the summit in South Africa. In addition to Russia, Brazil, India, China, and South Africa, the group now includes Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, and the United Arab Emirates. After coming to power in December 2023, Argentine President Javier Milei notified the leaders of the BRICS countries in official letters about his country's refusal to join the group.
