TikTok has deleted multiple Sputnik accounts amid US accusations of interference in Russian media.
The message "couldn't find this account" appears when a user tries to reach Sputnik Africa, Sputnik Afrique, Sputnik International, Sputnik Serbia, Sputnik Brasil, Sputnik Mundo, and other accounts on the social media platform.
TikTok has not yet explained the reasons for deleting the accounts.
On September 4, the US Treasury announced a new batch of sanctions against the editor-in-chief of the media group Rossiya Segodnya, a Sputnik parent company, and the RT TV channel Margarita Simonyan, as well as her deputies Anton Anisimov and Elizaveta Brodskaya.
The US State Department has tightened the conditions for the work of the media group and its subsidiaries, defining their status as "foreign agents." As prescribed by the law on foreign missions, they will be required to notify the department about personnel and property working in the United States.
The US authorities also brought charges of violating the law on foreign agents and money laundering against two RT employees.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova promised that Washington's actions against Russian media will not go unanswered.
As the Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told Sputnik in response to Washington's sanctions against the media group, there will be restrictions on the dissemination of information by American media in Russia.
He noted, though, that mirror countermeasures are impossible due to the absence of a state news agency in the United States.
