Burkina Faso's Minister of Security, Mahamadou Sana, expressed solidarity with the victims of a recent terrorist attack in Barsalgho and promised a strong response to the enemy during a government visit to the injured in Kaya, the capital of Sanmatenga province. The visit was intended to convey the support of President Ibrahim Traoré and the nation to the affected communities.
"In this counter-attack, we are going to provide a response so that the enemy knows, more than ever, that we are not going to accept such barbarities on our territory," said the Minister of Security, Mahamadou Sana, during the government visit to Kaya.
Last Saturday, Barsalogho, a commune of Sanmatenga province in central Burkina Faso, was attacked by the Jama'at Nasr al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM)*, a militant jihadist organization, according to local media reports.
JNIM reportedly said that the attacks were targeted at the Volunteers for the Defense of the Homeland, an armed self-defense group in Burkina Faso created to fight jihadist insurgents.
Civilians and the defense and security forces who were digging trenches fell victim to the terrorists. The attack resulted in up to 200 deaths, as well as many injured people, the reports said.
