During the Southern African Development Community's (SADC) Liberation Square ceremony at the Museum of African Liberation in Harare, Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa pledged continued support for the preservation and promotion of Africa's own narratives of decolonization.
"We are aware that the history of our continent has been and continues to be deliberately distorted to suit the parochial interests of our former erstwhile colonial masters," said Mnangagwa.
Mnangagwa emphasized the need for this generation to accurately document and preserve Africa's history of decolonization. He announced that the Liberation Square will honor both African nations and key international allies like China and Russia. Furthermore, Zimbabwe has dedicated land open to all SADC member states for a monument commemorating the struggle against colonialism.
