US President Joe Biden said Ukraine’s incursion into Russia’s Kursk region is creating “a real dilemma.”
“I’ve spoken with my staff on a regular basis, probably every four or five hours in the last six or eight days. It's creating a real dilemma for Putin. We’ve been in direct contact, constant contact with the Ukrainians,” Biden said on Tuesday in comments on Ukraine's attack.
On August 6, at 5:30 am local time, up to 1,000 Ukrainian troops crossed the border into Russia and launched an offensive in the Kursk region, capturing several villages.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said that Kiev has launched a large-scale provocation, firing indiscriminately at civilian targets.
Twelve civilians have been killed in the attack and 121 others injured, including 10 children, acting Kursk region governor Alexei Smirnov said on Monday.
