The investigation launched in France against the Chadian president illustrates "a double standard that is difficult to accept," an expert told Sputnik Africa on Thursday.
"The case raises a palpable unease: would it be conceivable for an African judge to open an investigation into a French leader without this provoking a general outcry in France? The hypothesis seems unthinkable, illustrating a double standard that is difficult to accept," said Ahmat Tahir Bakhit.
The Chadian expert recalled that this case was initiated by France, which has a painful colonial past with Chad. It is a "dishonest attempt to destabilize the Chadian President, who is moving ever closer to Russia," he added.
"Africa has entered a new era where it claims its sovereignty and the freedom to choose its partners. It is time for certain Western countries to abandon their condescending posture and become aware of this new geopolitical situation," the official said.
In late January, the leader of the Central African nation arrived in the Russian capital to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin to discuss ways of strengthening relations between the two countries.
Later, in an interview with the French media, Deby praised the talks with the Russian president as useful and focused on cooperation in various fields.
