On this occasion, the chairwoman of the Russian Federation Council, Valentina Matvienko, welcomed the partnership between Moscow and Kigali.
“We value Russian-Rwandan relations, which are traditionally friendly and trusting in nature. We consider Rwanda a reliable and long-standing partner,” she wrote in a message to Rwandan Senate President Francois Zavier Kalinde.
She also thanked the African country for supporting Russia on international platforms and for its balanced position on the main issues of ensuring global stability and security.
Furthermore, Matvienko stated that Russia attaches great importance to strengthening inter-parliamentary ties with Rwanda, noting they have “great potential.”
“We stand for further expansion of interaction between the legislative bodies of our countries and confirm our interest in developing a dialogue among parliamentarians,” she added.
An example of Rwanda's constructive position on security issues is its withdrawal of its signature from the final communique of the Swiss conference on Ukraine, held in mid-June and to which Russia was not invited.
