Taking under the Russian military's control of the Noviy area in Chasov Yar (also known as Chasiv Yar) is a significant tactical success for the Russian army, which opens new opportunities for further liberation of the city and means a breach in the defenses of the Ukrainian armed forces, Yan Gagin, advisor to the head of the Donetsk People's Republic (DPR), told Sputnik.
"It is a significant tactical success and the key to a further advance. Opportunities are now opening up for further liberation of Chasov Yar," Gagin said.
Serious battles were taking place for a long time for the area in the eastern part of Chasov Yar, he added.
"Taking control of this area means a breach in the Ukrainian armed forces' defenses. It is another step in the direction of the Seversky Donets canal," he said.
