The Somali National Army successfully carried out an operation with the assistance of "foreign partners," eliminating 30 terrorists from the al-Shabaab group*, according to the national news agency's report.
According to the report, terrorists were eliminated in the Rage Baris area between Galgaduud and the Middle Shabelle region. A total of two trucks and one Toyota pickup that belonged to the terrorist militants were destroyed during the attack.
Earlier in June, Somalia's military forces killed 47 members of al-Shabaab in the central region of Galguduud, according to the Somali Information Ministry.
Moreover, the senior envoy of the African Union in Somalia assured the residents of the country that the withdrawal of troops would not lead to a "security vacuum." On Sunday, the African Union Transitional Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) handed over the Barire military base to Somali security forces as part of the third phase of troop reduction.
Al-Shabaab is a Somalia-based jihadist militant group linked to the al-Qaeda* terrorist group. It wages armed resistance against the Somali government and obstructs UN humanitarian missions in the country.
