Russian Parliament Speaker Pays Tribute to Memory of Iranian President Raisi

TEHRAN (Sputnik) - On Sunday, Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and his delegation died in a helicopter crash in northwestern Iran. The delegation was on its way back from Azerbaijan. Iranian authorities said the helicopter crash-landed in a remote mountainous region due to poor weather conditions and thick fog.

Russian State Duma speaker Vyacheslav Volodin paid tribute to the memory of those killed in the crash of Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi's helicopter, Iranian news agency Fars reported on Wednesday.
Volodin paid tribute to the memory of Raisi and Amirabdollahian, the news agency reported.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters that Volodin was authorized to lead the delegation by Russian President Vladimir Putin once Tehran announced the time and the place of the ceremony.
The farewell ceremony is being held in several stages in different Iranian cities. It started on Tuesday in the cities of Tabriz and Qom and later the officials' bodies were sent to the capital city. On Thursday, the ceremony is set to take place in the city of Birjand, after which Raisi's body will be sent to his hometown of Mashhad to be buried in the Imam Reza shrine containing the remains of Ali al-Rida, the eighth Imam of Shia Islam.
