The 33rd summit of the League of Arab States (LAS) will take place in Bahrain’s capital, Manama, on Thursday.
Leaders of 22 member states, who will gather amid the ongoing Israeli military operation in the Gaza Strip, are expected to mainly focus on the Palestinian issue, including on peace efforts and support for the creation of a Palestinian state. The summit will also discuss regional security issues.
Syrian President Bashar Assad will also attend the summit. Syria's membership in the organization was reinstated in 2023 and Assad took part in the last year's LAS leaders summit after a 12-year hiatus.
