Mauritius is determined to strengthen friendship with Moscow despite Western pressure, Russian Ambassador to the country Konstantin Klimovsky told Russian media.
"Despite the pressure from the collective West, Mauritius is still determined to actively develop bilateral cooperation based on the traditional friendly relations between our countries," ha said.
Mauritius is currently working on the introduction of Russian Mir payment cards, the diplomat revealed.
"The Mauritian authorities really have such plans," he noted.

However, it's too early to say whether it will be possible to pay with Mir cards there as early as 2024, he said. Currently, the card is accepted in nine countries, but in six of them its operations are limited.
Russia and Mauritius have "good prospects for diversifying economic relations," Klimovsky said. This concerns the following areas:
fishing;
oceanographic research;
seafood processing;
marine transportation;
information technologies and telecommunications;
energy;
higher education;
culture and sports.
The ambassador also noted that Mauritius participated in the second Russia-Africa Summit. According to him, the delegation was headed by the ambassador of Mauritius in Moscow and included representatives of a number of ministries and agencies.
In April 2023, Janke highlighted that Russia emerged a key "player" for his country against the backdrop of the changing international environment.
