Along with VOA and the BBC, Burkina Faso's Superior Council of Communication later suspended some other international news media over the HRW report, including the French newspaper Le Monde, the British publication The Guardian, the German broadcaster Deutsche Welle and others.
"Western press demonizes, invents lies," declared Burkina Faso's Transitional President Ibrahim Traoré after the suspension of the media outlets.
"A country that doesn't control its information is bound to fall into chaos," Daouda Sawadogo, publishing director of the Éclair info newspaper, told Sputnik Africa.
