'Toy Soldiers': French Journalist Rules out President Macron Sending Troops Into Ukraine Conflict

In February, French President Emmanuel Macron said that Western leaders had discussed the possibility of sending troops to Ukraine, but that no consensus had been reached, adding, however, that "nothing can be ruled out." Later, French Chief of Staff, Pierre Schill, noted that the French army was preparing for "the toughest" engagements.

A French journalist has ruled out his country's President Emmanuel Macron sending troops to the conflict zone in Ukraine, saying that the leader's perception of the military is "like a child playing with toy soldiers."

"When you see that France has just lost the war in the Sahel, I can't imagine it getting involved in a war of a different dimension in Ukraine," French journalist Jacques-Marie Bourget told Sputnik Africa, commenting on the possible deployment of French troops to the Ukrainian front, proposed by President Emmanuel Macron.

In the French journalist's opinion, Macron "will never do it."
"He is responding to a roadmap [...] laid out for him by the United States." By adopting the posture of a "beanpole", "he wants to show that he, the only one who can fight, is ready".

What's more, Macron "knows nothing about the military. He likes to wear aviator jackets and uniforms when he has the chance. But he doesn't really have a personal strategic vision. He likes barracks, parades, and that's it," Bourget said.

Recalling that "France has lost all its wars since 1918," the journalist believes that the French military lobby will face up to this "passion".
The lobby is "lucid enough to be aware of the weakness of the French troops, who don't want to see their country made a fool of in a military adventure that could end in bloodshed."
