Russia has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening relations with Burkina Faso as Igor Martynov assumes the role of the new Russian ambassador to the West African nation.
Alexey Saltykov, the Russian ambassador to Cote d'Ivoire who previously served as envoy to Burkina Faso, expressed his congratulations and optimism for continued collaboration.
"I would like to sincerely congratulate Igor Martynov on his appointment to the trusted position of Russian Ambassador to Burkina Faso and wish him every success in his work to develop relations with the country," Alexey Saltykov told Sputnik Africa.
The resumption of work at the embassy in Ouagadougou at the end of last year is "an event of great importance for bilateral relations," he stressed.
This "will give an impetus to the development of our long-standing ties, the friendly relations between Russia and Burkina Faso," the diplomat added.
"The opening of our embassy in Ouagadougou undoubtedly reflects Russia's policy of strengthening relations with African countries. This effort will help expand the role of the African continent in the international arena. It fits perfectly into the context of multipolarity," Saltykov said.
Since the reopening of the Russian embassy in Ouagadougou in December 2023, Saltykov has served as Russia's envoy to Burkina Faso before the appointment of the new ambassador.
