In preparation for the upcoming national and local government elections on May 29, South Africa has implemented stringent security measures to ensure a safe and fair electoral process.
Defense and Veterans Affairs Minister Thandi Modise outlined the comprehensive security plan, emphasizing the protection of public voting facilities, key national points, and critical infrastructure.
Individuals found guilty of damaging or harming critical infrastructure will face severe penalties, including a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison.
Furthermore, the government has issued a stern warning against electoral fraud, corruption, interference with electoral officials, and forced voting, stating that such offenses will be met with prosecution.
Minister Modise also cautioned the public against the dissemination of false information, rumors, and threats that could undermine the integrity of the elections.
