Washington is set to pull out from Niger’s territory more than 1,000 servicemen stationed at the major US drone base in the north of the country following Niamey’s breakdown of the military cooperation agreement with the US.
The development came in the wake of Nigerien Prime Minister Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine’s talks with Deputy Secretary of State Kurt Campbell in a meeting in Washington on Friday, AFP reported, citing unnamed US officials.
The two parties have reportedly agreed upon an upcoming US delegation visit to Niamey to facilitate an organized withdrawal process.
Earlier, Nigerien state media announced that the Pentagon officials would visit the West African country next week.
