The Russian-African International Conference on Combatting Infectious Diseases will be held every two years, organizers said. The first such conference was held on April 17-19 in Uganda.
The second event on the fight against infectious diseases is proposed to be held in 2026 in Africa.
On Wednesday, Popova noted that Russia-African partnership in the fight against infectious diseases will be expanded.
Between 2020 and 2021, Russia provided COVID-19 vaccines to at least six African countries, including Benin, Djibouti, Tunisia, Angola, Zimbabwe, and Egypt.
In 2023, Russian specialists helped overcome an outbreak of intestinal infections in the Republic of the Congo. The result was a 16-fold reduction in the incidence rate. Two Russian mobile laboratories were also delivered to the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
A project for the establishment of a Russian-Burundian medical center for research and control of infectious diseases is planned for 2024.
