Russian Military Says Five Drones, Two Rockets of MRLS Grad Downed Over Belgorod, Kaluga Regions

MOSCOW (Sputnik) - A day earlier, the governor of the Belgorod region, Vyacheslav Gladkov, said that eight air targets had been shot down as they approached Belgorod, killing one driver and injuring three others.

Russian air defense systems intercepted and destroyed five Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and two rockets fired from multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) Grad over the Russian regions of Belgorod and Kaluga overnight, the Russian Defense Ministry said on Friday.
"This night, an attempt by the Kiev regime to carry out a terrorist attack against facilities in the territory of the Russian Federation with the use of aircraft-type UAVs and multiple launch rocket systems BM-21 "Grad" was foiled," the ministry said in a release, adding that five drones and two rockets were intercepted over the Belgorod and Kaluga regions.

Ukraine has been sending drones and missiles into the Russian territory almost daily since it launched a counteroffensive in early June. The UN said in August, following a botched drone strike on Moscow, that it did not want to see any targeting of civilian infrastructure.
