Zimbabwe Reserves Right to Expel Foreign Missions Deemed Illegal, Presidential Spokesman Says

According to media reports, last month, four US nationals hired by USAID entered the country without following proper protocol, and took part in secret meetings. On February 17, when it became clear that their true intention was to find "a more effective method to effect regime change in the country", they were deported.

Zimbabwe reserves the right to expel foreign missions deemed illegal, Presidential Spokesman George Charamba said.
This measure will preserve the sovereignty of the country and will apply to any country, regardless of its weight, Charamba said.
"The size of the country, the military might of that country, the economic might of that country, the diplomatic might of that country is absolutely inconsequential when it comes to the sovereignty of this country and the need to preserve it," he said.

This comes after Washington announced the forced expulsion of personnel from the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The Americans were reviewing the political environment ahead of the 2028 general elections, Charamba was quoted as saying by the Sunday Mail.
According to the newspaper, the US personnel met with journalists, NGOs, representatives of civil society and opposition, as well as foreign diplomats. All this, in secret and without the knowledge of the authorities who have not been notified of the presence of these employees.
