"Most submissions were made online, with only about five (5) submissions being submitted manually at the office of the Electoral Commission. Preliminary indications are that 115 parties have made submissions to contest seats in the National Assembly," the commission's statement reads.
Of those who applied, 14 parties are currently represented in South Africa's National Assembly and 101 parties do not have seats in the assembly, the IEC revealed.
"Work is currently underway to verify the submissions for compliance," the IEC said.
On May 29, South Africans will elect members of the National Assembly and provincial legislatures.
