But the latter, including France, are still claiming "unconditional support for Ukraine" as of February 2022.
Sputnik Africa invites you to take a look back at the promises made by Paris in 2023 and various deliveries that have proven powerless to change the situation on the ground.
February, three months before the counteroffensive:
"It will be necessary that we continue [...] the military support needed for the preservation of Ukraine," French President Emmanuel Macron said.
"New deliveries are being prepared to constantly take into account the most urgent and immediate needs of Ukraine in strengthening its defense capabilities," a joint statement by France and Ukraine, signed in May, read.
"Our unwavering support for Ukraine must be maintained over the long term, whether political, military, economic, humanitarian or related to reconstruction," the French President declared last June.
"We can clearly see that the conflict is taking hold, and we are going to have to show endurance," Sébastien Lecornu, France's Minister of the Armed Forces, noted in September.
At one point, the French leader even made a decision to increase the supply of weapons and equipment "taking into account the situation."
Today, the situation on the battlefield is disappointing for the Ukrainians, and some allies are certainly wondering if future aid will be able to change it.
While Macron is talking about the possibility of sending his troops to Ukraine, the US Congress is stomping with the adoption of a budget of 60 billion dollars, including aid to Kiev.
Weapons & Equipment Supplied by France
From the very beginning, Macron was to deliver "what Ukraine needs, without weakening the French armies, and deterring escalation."
Initially, France supplied anti-tank and anti-aircraft missiles, personal protective equipment and individual armament.
Then heavier and more sophisticated systems were sent to Kiev, including Caesar cannons with the corresponding ammunition. France also provided training in their use.
In the field of air defense, France has provided, among other things, two Crotale NG anti-aircraft systems, multiple rocket launchers as well as the corresponding ammunition.
Later, France supplied the AMX-10 RC armored vehicles, a GM200 long-range air surveillance radar, and a SAMP/T, a medium-range missile defense system. Paris also delivers Scalp missiles for "in depth" strikes.
