The unrest was staged by ticket holders on two Nigerian Dana Airlines flights that were rescheduled several times without explanation, with waiting times of more than 24 hours, media said.

Passengers tired of long waits for flights went on a rampage at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Nigeria's Lagos city, beating airport staff and smashing computers and desks at the departure gate, according to local media.
Monday's incident came as over a hundred passengers with tickets to the southeastern city of Owerri and the southern city of Port Harcourt waited for hours to depart with no updates and have been repeatedly warned of flight delays.
The company eventually canceled the flights, not providing compensation to people for their lost time, prompting angry passengers to vandalize the airline's property and disrupt airport operations.
"Unfortunately, [...] Dana Airlines announced flight cancellation on both routes with no proper address nor option for refund. Angry passengers started their agitations and vandalized the airport properties belonging to Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited," an airport official told media.

The outlet added that the affected passengers were finally called back on board three hours after the unrest began, after aviation security authorities at the airport intervened.
In a statement tweeted prior to the unrest, Dana Airlines apologized to passengers for the delay in flight schedules.
