During his visit to Washington, DC, Kenya's Cabinet Secretary for Defense, Aden Duale, stated that Nairobi will stay in the US-led multinational coalition to fight against the Houthis and will continue to support the US in counterterrorism and marine navigation safety.
Moreover, the two countries discussed the necessity to "increase our efforts on the war against al-Shabaab* and the need for security and stability in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandeb" Strait, according to Duale.
The US-led coalition includes Bahrain, Canada, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, the Seychelles, the UK, and is supported by some other countries.
Despite the large number of members, the coalition has failed to stop the Houthis' operations. Since January 12, when US and British strikes inside Yemen began, the Houthis have targeted at least a dozen commercial and military vessels in the region.
A member of the Houthi Politburo, Muhammad al-Buheyti, told Sputnik in January that the attacks on Yemen were "absolutely unjustified," since the Houthis targeted only commercial vessels associated with Israel, adding that "the US and UK, in turn, will suffer heavy losses."
