Earlier in the day, the ICJ ordered Israel to take all measures to prevent any acts that fall under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide in the Gaza Strip.
"Contrary to many expectations, the decision does not require Israel to cease hostilities and withdraw troops from the Gaza Strip. However, the court has provisionally accepted that the scale of the suffering of the civilian population of Gaza makes it justifiable to raise the question of genocide," the ministry's spokeswoman, Maria Zakharova, said in a statement.
Russia hopes that the UN Security Council will make steps towards achieving a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the spokeswoman added.
