On Wednesday, the Russian Defense Ministry said that the Russian military has destroyed a building in Ukraine’s Kharkov that hosted French mercenaries after it launched a precision strike against it. On Thursday, French ambassador to Russia Pierre Levy was summoned to the Russian Foreign Ministry in connection with the incident.
"There is a conversation going on through our diplomats. There were no proposals to hold a conversation at the highest level. We have stated repeatedly that many foreign mercenaries are fighting on Kiev's side, and each time our statement is confirmed again," Peskov told reporters.
Moreover, Peskov emphasized that the destruction of French mercenaries only confirms statements previously made by Moscow about the presence of foreign military personnel in Ukraine.
"We have repeatedly stated that there are many foreign mercenaries fighting on behalf of the Kiev regime. Our statement is again confirmed," Peskov added.
On Wednesday, the Russian Defense Ministry said the military had launched a high-precision strike on a building housing French mercenaries in Kharkov, killing more than 60 fighters and wounding more than 20. Among the dead mercenaries were reportedly Russian neo-Nazis fighting for Ukraine.
