"The year 2023 saw record numbers for inbound tourism to Egypt, with 14.906 million tourists recorded during the year," Issa told a government meeting, as quoted by the Egyptian cabinet.
The previous record was set in 2010 when 14.7 million tourists visited the country, he said, adding that a large influx of tourists was observed in the fourth quarter of 2023.
Egyptian Vice Minister for Tourism Ghada Shalaby has earlier said that Egypt aims to attract up to 30 million tourists in 2028.
Tourism is one of the main sources of foreign exchange earnings for Egypt. In September 2022, Egyptian authorities said that they expect profits from tourism to increase to $30 billion a year.
