A peacekeeper of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) died, and five others were injured as an explosive device detonated in the northwest of the country.
"The peacekeeper, Atebele Emmanuel Steve, lost his life during a patrol in the village of Mbindale," the mission said in a statement late on monday, adding: "[...] Five other peacekeepers were injured, two of them seriously, following this explosion."
"This patrol of the Cameroonian contingent provided escort for a team from the International Organization for Migration" the mission explained.
The victims were evacuated for medical treatment, the statement added.
