Chad's Prime Minister Says He Will Renounce His Salary to Help Citizens, Reports Reveal

Succes Masra, a former opposition leader in Chad, was named the country's prime minister a week after Chad's Supreme Court endorsed the results of a referendum organized by the ruling military administration in which a majority of Chadians voted in favor of a new constitution.

The newly appointed Chad's interim Prime Minister Succes Masra said he would renounce his salary to help Chadians, reports said on Sunday.

"I am giving up my salary as prime minister, which I will devote entirely to a social scholarship for the 23 provinces," Masra reportedly told state TV.

The minister added that this endowment is "a way of modestly contributing what could have belonged to [him]."
Furthermore, Masra recalled that his personal background is also modest. His initial strides were taken at the village school. Now, he is averse to have his story considered a fable.

"I don’t want my story to be exceptional. I want this story to be that of all the children of the republic. It was built by Christians, Muslims, believers, non-believers, Jews, Arabs, etc. who simply wanted to capitalize on the talent they could see. They did not look with condescension at my social condition," the interim prime leader was quoted as saying.

Shortly after Succes Masra, legislator Bedei Toullomi announced his intention to relinquish 50% of his salary and allocate the rest to orphanages.
Earlier, in his New Year's address, Gabon's President Brice Oligui Nguema said that he refused his salary as president of the republic.

Chad's Opposition Leader Named Prime Minister of Transitional Government: Presidency
Succes Masra, the leader of the opposition Transformers Party, was appointed as the prime minister of Chad's transitional government on January 1 by the country's interim president, General Mahamat Idriss Deby Itno, the presidency reported.
He reportedly returned to Chad in November after the interim government's endorsement of a decree granting amnesty to 110 individuals who were found guilty of participating in the October 2022 protests that rocked the country when Deby postponed elections for another two years and announced a new transitional government.
